Dunlop RG design players Summary:
I bought these in a moment of club ho insanity while working in northern Maine brand new for 89 dollars. I called one of my golfing buddies the following day and we laughed about trying to hits these clubs which are not appropriate for me. These are musclebacks with TT DGS300 shafts. My swing speed with a 6 iron is about 80 mph.I shoot about 85-90 when I play regularly in the middle of the summer.
I decided to put them up on ebay but would hit the 6 and 9 iron at the range prior. Hit both very well which was surprising. Then took the 4,6, and 8 and hit them well. So I took them all to the range and hit them well. Brought my x18's to the range and compared club by club. I preferred the dunlop 7-pw over the x18. Lower ball flight,slightly longer, and very accurate. 6 iron was even. 5 and 4 advantage x18 and with the 3 iron there is no comparison, the x18 is far easier to hit.
Decided to play a round with the clubs. Hit the 6-pw just fine. Used the 3 and 4 iron off the tees from the 3rd hole to the end of the round. Tried to use the 3 and 4 off the deck and it was comical, but to be fair I don't use my 3 and 4 x18 off the deck either.
I did not take score, but when I got home I did add up the score and I had shot an 86. I don't consider that a legitimate score as I was moving the ball around on the fairway and kicked the ball out of the rough a few times to see how the club would work in the fairway. I hit my driver on the second hole into the woods for 2 strokes so just playing with these clubs I would have shot somewhere about 86-90 and I shot 87 a few weeks previous with my regular clubs.
At this point I am trying to sort out what I have seen. How am I hitting clubs that someone at my level is not supposed to hit. I measured the length of the face and scoring lines and it is the same as the x18's. My sense is that cavity backs on the mid and short irons are really not very much game improvement. I think the other thing is that I am 53 and have played for many years hitting tiny blades back when I first started playing in the 1960's. These Dunlop musclebacks are shovels in comparison to those old clubs.
Not sure what I am going to do. I will probably play these through the rest of the year. I might split the set playing the 6-pw and keeping the callaway x18 3-5. They might go on ebay. Who knows. My final thought it that there are many game improvement features to new clubs that no one would deny, but lets not take every claim as the truth.

I recently bought some dunlop rg design players irons and i love them. i used to Mizuno-MP 37. these allow me to shape the ball very well from right to left and left to right. they are very confident lookking at address which gives me more confidence over the ball. all good golfers should play these irons.

I playes these Irons first on a "Demoday" of Dunlop and fell in love with them. The feeling and the workability is great. Even the long irons are easy to play. Not as easy as cavity-back irons, but easier than the "Titleist 690MB" and the "Mizuno MP-37". The design is very well. The irons are classic blades, that are good to play and with which you can shape the ball as good as with the blades from "Titleist and Mizuno". The price is also really good. Only 600$, great value!
